昭和の匂いがする…下町の正統派かき氷：茅場町「田川堂」

「田川堂」（店名教えていただきました、ころこにさんありがとうございます！）
東京都中央区新川2-7
※茅場町パークホテルのすぐ隣

主な値段・・・・・小倉白玉 500円

ある暑い日。フラフラしながら歩いていた私は、一軒の古びた和菓子屋さんにかかっていた「氷」ののれんに引き寄せられました。暑い…お腹空いた…かき氷たべたい…。

おじいさんとおばあさんが二人でやっている、こじんまりした和菓子屋さん。
店の奥を喫茶スペースにしているのですが、足元は三和土（たたき）そのままで、古びたパイプ椅子と、簡素なテーブルが三つ四つ置いてあるだけ。壁には柱時計がかかり、メニューはペラ紙に筆で直筆のものが一枚貼ってあります。

う～ん、昭和の匂いがする…。
私は東京の下町育ち。子供の頃はこういう甘味処が普通にあちこちあったけど、最近はなくなっちゃいましたねえ…。

おじいさんが「何にします？」と訊いてきました。
私「うーんと…小倉白玉ってかき氷ですよね」
おじいさん「そうだよ。ちょっと時間かかるけどいい？」
私「時間ってどれくらいですか」
おじいさん「お湯わかすからね、五分くらい」
私「（思わずクスリと笑って）大丈夫です、それくらい待ちます」
というわけで小倉白玉を注文。

バタンバタン、と冷蔵庫を開けたり閉めたりする音、しばらくすると、シャーコ、シャーコと氷をかく音が聞こえてきました。
約束の五分が経って出てきたかき氷を見た瞬間「なつかしい～！！！！」と涙が出そうになる私。いや、大げさじゃなく。写真は続きに。

コップに入った水道水と、無造作に差し込まれたアルミのスプーン。そうそう、私が子供の頃、甘味処で食べるかき氷ってまさしくこういうのだったっけ…。

下町の甘味処では、ここのように、氷の上にはなにもかけないお店が多かったんです。多分、上からかけるとせっかくかいた氷が溶けてしまうから。さきに器にシロップなりあずきなりを敷いておいて、その上に氷をかけるスタイルが普通。

氷はエッジの立った、よく刃を研いで削ったのであろう氷です。
シャクシャクしつつも口溶けは軽くておいしい。
さくさくと食べ進んでいくと、柔らかなあずきと白玉が顔を覗かせます。

白玉、6～7個入ってました。数なんか適当なんだろうなあ(笑)
正直、あずきはちょっと焦げ気味な味で「ん？」と思ったんだけど、でも柔らかく炊いてあって氷や白玉とのなじみは抜群でした。一つ前に書いた三原堂とはある意味対照的なかき氷。

小さな扇風機が店内の空気をゆっくりとかきまぜています。
私が子供の頃「かき氷」ってこういうのだった…とノスタルジーにひたってしまうようなかき氷でした。値段も350円～500円と安いし。ああ、おいしかったぁ…。

500円玉一つ、ポンと渡して外に出ました。
レシートもなにもないので、電話番号も店名も分からずじまい。外に出てお店の看板をまじまじと見てみたけれど…こ、これなんて読むの？？？

看板が読めずに困っていたのですが、このエントリを見たころこにさんが「田川堂ですよ」と教えてくださいました。
串じゃなくて堂だったんですね…しかも右から読むんですね…お恥ずかしながら思いつかなかったです。疑問をといてくださって、どうもありがとうございました！

はじめまして。いつも読ませていただいてました。こんなにうまそうなかき氷がいっぱいあるとは。

さてこの「串川田（仮名）」さんのかき氷を見て「そうそうそうだった」と私もたいへん懐かしい思いをしました。そうですよね昔のかき氷は上からシロップかけてなかったですもん。

私のやり方としては、まず、かき氷が来たら、手で氷をきゅっきゅっと固めて、柔らかい雪玉程度になったところをスプーンですくってコップの水の中に入れて氷水として飲み（あの当時、コップに氷なんか入ってこなかったですもん。もちろんコップもガラスじゃなくて紫透明プラスチック）、あとは下のシロップや小豆としゃかしゃかかきまぜて食べてたので。いや、かき氷の食べ方としてはてんで邪道というか、なっちゃいかない食べ方なんですが、幼時のやってたことということでお許しを。

それが記憶にこびりついているので、上からシロップかけてあったり、アイスが乗ってたりすると「手できゅっきゅができねえ！」と怒ってたんでした（大人ですからやりはしませんが）。

氷に上からシロップかけないのって、東京の下町のかき氷特有のことだったんですねー。私は下町じゃなくて都下武蔵野市でしたが。あと、親の田舎の新潟もシロップかけてませんでした。

長々すみませんでした。つい思い出しちゃって。これからもかき氷話を楽しみにしてます。

写真、懐かしく思っていただけたようでよかったです。武蔵野のほうも、新潟でもそうでしたか。私はかき氷というと、このエントリで紹介しているような、上は真っ白なものが当たり前だと思っていたのですが、大学生の時、東京以外の出身の友達に「上が真っ白だったら最初のうち味がないじゃないか」といわれて「なるほど」と思った記憶があります…

１年ぶりに書き込みます♪今年も毎日毎日のぞかせてもらってすっごく楽しんでます。
「田川堂」いつか行きたい！私が「かき氷」に夢中になるきっかけになった本郷２丁目「亀屋」というお店も、「田川堂」にすごく似ているのです！！！
池袋の「三原堂」、昨年まではふんわり氷で、「芋甚」に少し近い氷をだしていたのですが、今年食べてみて、すっかり氷が粗くなり、バランスも変わってしまい、かなりがっくりきました。ずっと変わらずにいてほしかったのに、すごく残念。
こちらのサイトのおかげで、今年の夏はおいしい氷を食べられました！「初音」「にんきや」おいしかったです。なんといっても「若葉」が最高でした。
ここで紹介されているお店、全部行きたい！
でも、読むだけでもすごくうれしいです。いつもありがとうです！！これからも楽しみにしてます。ああ、夏よ行かないで・・・。

もしかして「亀屋」さんって，本郷…というか水道橋の，給水公苑の近所の古くてちっちゃいお店ではないでしょうか…？
もしそうだとしたら，そこは私が高校生の頃，しょっちゅう学校帰りに寄ってかき氷を食べていたお店ではないかと思います…。氷あんずがお気に入りで，よく食べてました…懐かしい～！！

あのあたりの住所が「本郷」だという意識がなくて，コメントを見てもしばらくピンと来なかったのです…。反応遅くてすみませんm(__)m

りおこさんはあの辺にお住まいなのでしょうか？私はあのへんの学校に通っていました^^

ayanoさん、すごい偶然ですね！そうです「亀屋」さんは水道橋の、給水公苑の近所です。私も本郷という意識は無かったのですが、ここに書かせてもらうにあたり、住所を見てみたら本郷２丁目だったのでちょっと意外に思っていました。私は数年前、たまたま行った御茶ノ水で、時間つぶしの散歩中に偶然みつけた「亀屋」さんで食べた氷あずきのおかげで、遅ればせながら、かき氷ってこんなにサラサラでおいしいものがあるんだと初めて知り、大感激したのです。あの衝撃は今もはっきり覚えています。（笑）天気によって、フワフワだったりサラサラだったり、お店の人の気まぐれで上からちょっと押さえられたり（笑）しますが、毎年行ってます。あ、今年はまだ行ってないので、行かねば♪
ayanoさんは高校生のころからこんなおいしいかき氷を食べていらしたのですね。うーん、納得！大納得です！私は練馬の田舎の高校生だったので、下町の甘味屋さんはあこがれてました。

ああ，やっぱりあのお店だったんですね。懐かしい～！
そう遠いところに住んでいるわけではないんですが，なかなかあのあたりには行くことがないので，勝手にもうお店たたんじゃったんじゃないかと思っていました(^^;

思い出の中で美化してるわけじゃなくて，ホントにおいしいんですね。亀屋，寒くなる前に行ってきたいと思います♪
