都内でも天然氷が食べられる：十条「だるまや」

主な値段・・・・・宇治金時770円（天然氷），氷カルピス620円（天然氷）
都内で唯一，天然氷が食べられるお店がある…ということで，行ってきました「だるまや」。埼京線に乗って十条駅を下車，駅前の商店街を歩いていくと真ん中あたりにあります。この商店街がすごい活気。いいなあ，こういうの。
さてこのだるまやさん，餅菓子を得意とする和菓子屋さんです。お菓子のほか，いなり寿司やお赤飯なんかも売っていたりして，いかにも昔ながらの気取ってない和菓子屋さん，という感じ。こういう雰囲気，いいなあ。
さて店内に入ると，意外と奥行きがあって広い喫茶スペースが広がっています。
宇治金時を注文すると「普通の氷にします？それとも天然氷？」ときかれました。ここはやっぱり，天然氷で注文。
抹茶の濃い緑と，あずきの色，その上にほそーい氷が筋のようになって斜めにかかっているところが何とも美しいかき氷です。商店街の素朴なお店で，こんなにきれいなかき氷が出てくるなんて…思わず見とれてしまいました。
和菓子屋さんらしく，きっちり炊かれたおいしい粒あんです。
抹茶はシロップを加えず，甘くないもの。粒あんの甘さと合ってオトナの美味です。
最初に聞かれた「普通の氷？天然氷？」という質問は予想外だったので，思わず「天然氷」と反射的に答えてしまったのですが，メニューに書いてある値段に100円足すと，天然氷で作ったかき氷になる，というシステムのようです。
こちらはカルピス氷。シンプルなだけに氷の味がよく分かる…
今まで「天然氷」をうたっているところで食べたのは，ここを含めて四ヵ所。
●秩父「阿左美冷蔵」
●鎌倉雪の下「埜庵」
●忍野八海「富士飲料」

阿左美冷蔵と埜庵は同じ秩父の氷なので一つにまとめるとして，これと忍野八海の氷と，ここの氷とは三種類全部違う味がします。今まで，氷そのものの味については，考えたことがなかったのですが…。
水（氷）の味を文章で説明するのは非常に難しいのですが，敢えて言うなら秩父の氷はすごく柔らかさを感じる味，忍野八海の氷はスッと固い清涼感のある味と言えばいいでしょうか。ここの氷はバランスがよくて丸～い半面，印象は薄い味，と感じました。
外に出てお金を払いながらお店の方と立ち話。お話好きな方で，いろいろ教えていただきました。ここのお店で使っている天然氷は，主に日光と軽井沢から買っていて，私がいただいたのは日光の氷だったそう。ここのところは暖冬続きなせいか，年々仕入れる氷の厚みが薄くなってきているのだそうです。なるほど…
ほかのかき氷（いちご，メロン，レモンといった定番のほか，ピーチなどもありました）のシロップはすべて市販のものなので，やっぱりできたらあずきか抹茶のメニューを食べて欲しい，うちは和菓子屋だから…ということでした。それはそうですよね。
家に帰ってから調べてみたら，現在天然氷を作っている氷屋さんは全国でも五軒くらいしかないのだそうです。場所は日光に三軒，軽井沢と秩父に一軒ずつ（あれ？山梨は？）。
来年のかき氷合宿は，北関東の氷室をドライブしながらはしごするかなあ…などと考えている今はもう九月半ば。今月下旬でトーキョーウジキントキは終了ですので，残り少ない期間ですがみなさまよろしくお付き合いくださいませ。m(__)m
